Employees Volunteer at the Polar Express Ride
On Saturday and Sunday, December 12 and 13, close to 2 dozen Burlington Labs employees came together as part of nearly 700 volunteer elves to help create a magical experience for hundreds of children at the Vermont Children’s Trust Foundation’s “Polar Express” holiday train ride.
This annual event transforms the Amtrak train into a magical holiday transport, and Burlington’s downtown Union Station into the North Pole. Hundreds of elves are on hand to welcome kids to the North Pole, sing songs, tell stories, and queue up the guest of honor -- Santa himself -- who fuels up on milk and cookies and stokes imaginations.
Burlington Labs staff helped decorate the train station (a massive undertaking), volunteered as elves the weekend of the ride, and helped direct traffic to keep all the little ones flowing safely to and from Santa’s workshop.
This is the first year that Burlington Labs has sponsored this event. It is sold out every year, and all ticket sales benefit the Vermont Children’s Trust Foundation, whose mission is to promote the well-being of children and families in Vermont by raising funds for community-based prevention programs.
Our sponsorship also allowed us to purchase tickets for the ride itself. We donated those tickets to families affiliated with both the local Oxford House sober home and the Salvation Army, putting a little extra cheer into the spirits of families who often struggle at this time of year.
