Steve Rummler Game Day with the Minnesota Twins
By Kristin Turner
Burlington Labs Local Representative - Minnesota
For the fifth consecutive year, Minnesota organizations involved in substance abuse prevention and treatment came together to celebrate recovery and cheer on the Minnesota Twins at Steve Rummler Game Day at Target Stadium. Burlington Labs joined in as a sponsor this year, and I was honored to be there.
Recovery was featured on the Jumbotron at Target Stadium at the 5th annual Steve Rummler Game Day.
A sold-out social event on one of the stadium’s private roofdecks offered a great opportunity for networking with others in the treatment industry both before and during the game, and I met a number of inspiring and interesting people. Charles Hilger from the Steve Rummler Hope Foundation got to throw out the first pitch, and the foundation was recognized throughout the game for their work to heighten awareness of the dilemma of chronic pain and the disease of addiction.
This year’s game day also ended up being held on Prince’s birthday. With Prince’s life, legacy and surprising death from an opiate overdose being so fresh on the minds of Minnesotans, it gave the event even more significance.
This event is a great way to raise broad awareness and visibility around an epidemic that impacts us all. The day was such a positive experience, and reminded me of all of the great work going on in my home state to help and inspire those living with addiction.
