Burlington Labs to Participate in #BlackBalloonDay
Christina Culver, our Lead Medical Office Assistant at our Enosburg, Vermont Patient Service Center, came across some information on the first annual Black Balloon Day campaign, planned for this Sunday, March 6, to honor lives lost to addiction.
The campaign was started by Lauren Hurley of Peabody, MA, in memory of her brother-in-law, who died from a drug overdose on March 6 of last year. So this Sunday, March 6, anyone who has lost a friend or family member to addiction is invited to fly a black balloon outside their home. (See the news story about the campaign.)
If enough people participate, the public will likely be surprised to see just how many black balloons are flying in their neighborhoods – sending the message that addiction can affect anyone, and does affect everyone.
We at Burlington Labs will be flying black balloons at our Patient Service Centers starting on Friday, March 4, since we’re not open on Sunday. We’re also putting our own twist on the campaign by incorporating our dove, in white, within the image of the black balloon.
We join with people across America in paying tribute to friends and loved ones lost to addiction – and we have many. We also want to send a message of hope that people can and do recover from this disease, and that individuals who enter treatment can consider our Patient Service Centers places of hope and new beginnings.
Thank you, Christina, for passing this along!
